Founded by Alan B. Bursteen in January 1991, New City Releasing is a full service sales and distribution agency representing independent motion pictures in the United States.  Over the past two decades, New City has built and maintained a solid reputation as an effective firm that negotiates and secures the rights and licensing of theatrical blockbusters to lower budget art and genre films. 

The company has represented such acclaimed features as Academy Award-winner® for Best Picture 2006, “Crash,” director, Christopher Nolan’s (“Batman Begins”) “Memento,” “The Illusionist,” starring Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti and Jessica Biel, “Freeway,” with Reese Witherspoon and Keifer Sutherland, and the cult classic  “Boondock Saints,” starring Wilem Dafoe.   

New City has played an integral role in helping transform the economics of the independent motion picture arena. As an established agency, the company provides services for both completed films and for those that haven’t begun production. New City is one of America’s most eminent programming suppliers with a licensing slate of over 250 television premieres. New City continues to provide dedicated service and commitment to business partners while exploring new avenues within the latest digital technology sector.  

Alan B. Bursteen 
Alan B. Bursteen is the President of New City Releasing. A 25-year veteran in the entertainment industry, Bursteen has an extensive background in motion picture production, acquisitions, sales and distribution.  In 1991, Bursteen formed New City Releasing, a feature film production and placement company. While at the helm of New City, he became one of the most prominent licensing agents of independent feature films in the United States.  His established track record for negotiating deals has made him a key figure in the independent marketplace.  Bursteen has successfully licensed over 750 motion pictures, produced more than 75 feature films and over 100 hours of television series. Bursteen holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Arizona State University, and is a member of IFP (Independent Feature Project), AFI (American Film Institute), NATPE (National Association of Programming Television Executives), ATAS (Academy of Television Arts & Sciences), and The PGA (Producers Guild of America).
